Do I Need to Replace My uPVC Windows or Can I Get Them Repaired?
This is a question we get asked all the time by our customers in Shoreham. Although it may seem like you need replacement windows or doors, you’d be surprised by the number of issues we can repair, saving you money on buying brand-new ones. In this post, we’ll cover some of the most popular window and door repairs we can carry out to help you decide if replacement or repair is the right option for you.
Window Condensation
Misted glass is a common issue we see in double glazing. When the seal wears, water gets in between the panes of glass and causes a build-up of condensation and mineral deposits, which give that unsightly misted appearance.
Fortunately, you don’t need to replace your whole window when you get misted glass. Instead, we can replace the glazing with new double panes to remove the misted look but save you money on buying a whole new frame.
Cracked or Broken Glass in your Window
Cracks and broken glass are rare in double glazing since it’s toughened glass. However, if you do experience damage, we can replace the pane without removing the frame.
If the frame itself also sustained damage, we can usually carry out repairs to this too, saving you money on new ones.
At the same time, we can apply safety film to the glass to help prevent damage from occurring in the future.
Water Leaking in through your Window
When the seal goes on a window, you’ll often notice damp patches forming around the window sill and edges inside your home. If it’s a small leak, we can often repair the seal and prevent any more water from coming in.
However, if it’s a large leak and there is extensive water damage, we may need to remove the window to rectify the damage and replace it with a new frame.
We’ll be able to assess the damage and give your our expert advice during a free call-out.
Damaged uPVC Window Frame
Any minor damage to a uPVC window frame or the beading around the window can usually be repaired. It’s easy enough to replace the beading around the glass if this has come loose, and minor scratches or dents to the frame can be repaired.
Major damage to a uPVC window frame will likely mean you need a new window, since the integrity of the waterproofing and seal may not be repairable and your energy efficiency will suffer.
Difficulty opening, closing or locking your uPVC Window
Stiff handles, broken locks, or difficulty opening windows are common issues, especially with uPVC. When a window doesn’t close or lock properly, it will let in a draft, meaning you’ll pay more on your energy bills.
We can usually rectify these issues by replacing handles or locks or adjusting the hinges. A quick, free call-out will let you know your options.
